If anything happens which is a decree of heaven, then under the deed no one is responsible. In other words, all claime are barred in the event of what we should cell en act of God, including sickness and death from accidental or natural causes.

(i). The date is the 1st November, 1916. It will be seen that the girl was six years of age according to Chinese reckoning. This is also shewn by the amount paid as compensation for milk and ginger money. It is the custom to allow $10 for each year. It will also be noticed that the girl was only aged 4 years and

one month according to our reckoning. Chinese do not reckon age ss we do. A Chinese child becomes one year old on the last day of the year in which it was born, and becomes two years old on

the New Years Day following. A Chinese child might therefore

be two years old when we should call it two days old.
